Balancing Work, Family, and Self
Put On Your Own Parachute Before Assisting Others!
Doing more with less takes a toll on our time, resources, and of course, our energy level. Relentless responsibilities can leave us feeling as if we will never catch up. Sometimes we simply need to stop and take a breath. When we don't establish firm boundaries around our priorities, our energy becomes scattered, our stress level rises, and productivity and life satisfaction decline. This is especially true for those who have multiple life roles---professional, partner, parent---or those who work in the helping professions or who are caregivers.
When we decide to live our lives on purpose, we reconnect with our core values, and recharge and refocus our energy. At the end of the training, participants will be better able to:
- Assess current life balance
- Identify core values as a foundation for balance
- Define priorities
- Determine where to start
- Establish boundaries to protect time and space
- Delegate and outsource
- Release old "tapes" that are no longer helpful
- Set goals that goals that support life balance
- Say "No" with conviction
- Jumpstart energy

Stress Management that Sticks Short and Long Term Solutions
The cost of stress in the workplace is staggering in terms of lowered morale, diminished productivity, absenteeism, stress-related disability, and turnover. The good news is that much can be done to manage stress. Many stress management programs offer a limited number of strategies in a single session, but not all stresses can be handled with the same tools. One or two sizes simply don't fit all people and situations.
When participants learn multiple strategies for managing stress as well as the appropriate situations in which to apply each strategy, they're better prepared to deal with both the known and unexpected stresses in the workplace and at home. And with practice they can expect their results to be enduring.
At the end of the training, participants will be better able to manage stress by applying the following strategies:
-
Knowing what you can and can't control
-
Problem-solving techniques
-
Managing initial response
-
Perspective building and distancing
-
Distancing: projecting the impact of the stress
-
Re-framing for positive possibilities
-
Refuting illogical ideas
-
Flexible thinking: getting unstuck
-
Humor as a healthy coping tool
-
Controlled breathing

Achieve Better Results with Effective Listening
Do You Hear What I Hear?
Successful organizations know that good communication means much more than speaking well. Excellent communication is based on effective listening, and is rooted in the ability to understand that different listening styles work best in different situations. When it comes to listening, one size doesn't fit all, but many sizes (styles) will make all feel understood, a basic tool for building a positive culture.
Whether it's the private sector, health care, education, service, or other nonprofits---managers and employees who listen well accomplish more, build better relationships, have fewer interpersonal conflicts, create employee loyalty, ans make fewer mistakes. At the end of the training, participants will be better able to:
-
Understand the four basic listening styles
-
Decide the most appropriate style for various interactions
-
Use strategic pauses
-
Listen reflectively
-
Create clarification strategies
-
Encourage dialogue
-
Maintain focus.
This program is based on the Inscape Listening Profile and supplementary materials and can be adapted to various time frames.
